Our Story: From Journalism to Student Success

Driven by the transformative nature of storytelling, Anita Fitzhugh established Gold River College Consulting to help students identify and articulate what makes them unique in order to craft compelling college essays with confidence.
With over 25 years of experience bringing stories to life as a journalist, public relations professional, and communications leader within higher education and education policy, Anita understands the power of a memorable story. Her journey began in television journalism where she spent years as both a reporter and producer identifying the most compelling aspects of every person and situation. She knows how to ask the right questions and when to dig deeper. As a published writer, she has experienced the magic that happens when the right words meet the right story.
Anita's insider knowledge about the world of higher education combined with her College Counseling certificate from UC San Diego provides valuable insight for clients. She teaches each student about the expectations of college essays, and the elements that make them interesting and memorable. With a career dedicated to identifying, writing, and promoting captivating narratives, she now leverages these skills to help students gain admission to a university where they will thrive. Whether they are an athlete, musician, artist, or the student who feels they don't have anything much to say, each college applicant will discover what makes them special.
Anita felt a calling to pursue college consulting after guiding her own daughters through their college application experiences (go Bruins, Mustangs, and Wildcats!). She enjoyed it so much, she began volunteering to help other college-bound students before eventually founding Gold River College Consulting.
The college application process can feel overwhelming, but with the right partner and guidance, it doesn't have to be. This special time in a young person's life offers a chance for students to reflect on their experiences, clarify their goals, and present themselves authentically to the colleges of their dreams.
